Event details

Join us for an engaging evening of chamber music at DKU, where intimate ensemble playing brings together diverse musical traditions and refined artistry in a program that spans cultures, styles, and eras.

The program includes a vibrant selection of works rooted in Chinese musical traditions, including arrangements from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Journey to the West, alongside Fu Guang and Bochan Li’s Cha Ma. These pieces showcase a rich palette of timbres—guzheng, pipa, dizi, yangqin, and more—blending traditional sonorities with contemporary ensemble textures in dynamic and evocative performances.

The concert also features cornerstone works of the Western chamber repertoire. Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in D Major, Op. 64 No. 5 “The Skylark” offers elegance and brilliance, while Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 49 brings sweeping lyricism and dramatic intensity.

A varied program of vivid chamber works further enriches the evening, featuring trios by Madeleine Dring and Anselme Vinee, as well as arrangements of Claude Debussy’s Petite Suite. The program also includes Gerald Finzi’s Five Bagatelles, a set of characterful pieces that highlight the expressive range of the clarinet.
