Yili Zhou, a philosopher and a classical pianist. Her main interests lie in metaethics, aesthetics (esp. the philosophy of music), and Chinese philosophy. She is currently a postdoc at Zhejiang University in China.
Yili received her Ph.D. in Philosophy with a Ph.D. minor in Piano Performance & Music Education from the University of Arizona. She has multicultural and multidisciplinary experiences: before pursuing her Ph.D. in the US, she spent her entire life living and studying in China; prior to attending the music school at UofA, she was only surrounded by philosophers. These experiences have equipped her to recognize the overlaps between Chinese ethics and ethics in the analytic philosophy tradition, as well as to understand how musicians approach and discuss topics, such as issues about normativity, differently from philosophers. Her goal is to bridge gaps, integrate diverse perspectives, and write from the dual perspectives of a philosopher and a musician, as well as from the perspectives of both a Chinese philosopher and an analytic philosopher.
