Bryce Beemer

Assistant Professor of History

Bryce Beemer has been an Assistant Professor of History at Duke Kunshan University (DKU) since 2019 where he teaches courses on World History and Southeast Asia. He studies cultural exchange in the context of long-distance slavery and warfare in Southeast Asia, Northeast India, and coastal Bengal. He is busy finishing his first book, Creole Kingdoms in Southeast Asia. He has a chapter on slavery and warfare in the forthcoming Cambridge History of Southeast Asia. His research has been translated into French and German. In 2014, Dr. Beemer received the World History Association’s best dissertation award. His scholarship received support from Fulbright, the Social Science Research Council (SSRC), the Mellon Foundation, and other private funding agencies. He received academic awards from the American Historical Association and the Burma Studies Foundation. Prior to joining DKU, Prof. Beemer was an SSRC Transregional Research Fellow for InterAsian Contexts and Connections.

Bryce Beemer 自2019年起担任昆山杜克大学历史学助理教授,开设世界历史与东南亚相关课程。他的研究重点是东南亚、印度东北部及孟加拉沿海地区的跨区域奴隶制和战争背景下的文化交流。他目前正在完成第一本专著《东南亚的克里奥王国》(Creole Kingdoms in Southeast Asia),此外,他还在即将出版的《剑桥东南亚史》(Cambridge History of Southeast Asia)中撰写了一章关于奴隶制与战争的内容。他的研究成果已被翻译成法语和德语。2014年,Beemer博士获得了世界历史学会(World History Association)最佳博士论文奖。其学术研究得到了富布赖特(Fulbright)、社会科学研究委员会(SSRC)、梅隆基金会(Mellon Foundation)以及其他私人资助机构的支持。他还曾获得美国历史学会(American Historical Association)和缅甸研究基金会(Burma Studies Foundation)颁发的学术奖项。在加入昆山杜克大学之前,Beemer教授曾是社会科学研究委员会(SSRC)“跨亚洲情境与联结”(InterAsian Contexts and Connections)项目的跨区域研究学者。
