The thINKingDANCE (tD) Emerging Dance Writer’s Fellowship recognizes exceptional work in the field of dance writing for two U.S.-based undergraduates studying in the performing arts, journalism, writing, or a related field. The Emerging Dance Writer’s Fellowship was created to foster the next generation of dance critics and writers, guiding them into the next phase of their career. The fellowship could function as a strong addition to a graduate school application, work portfolio, and expansion of their respective professional networks.
Selected writers will have their work published on our platform as one of the premiere articles of the new year, along with a feature on our webpage. Selected fellows will be paired with a member of our editorial board to receive three hours of one-on-one mentorship/professional development during the editorial process of their work.
In addition, fellowship recipients will receive a $500 stipend.
Applicants are welcome to submit one 500-word maximum writing sample in arts analysis, performance criticism, or creative writing. Prior to submitting, we encourage applicants to become acquainted with the types of articles we publish, outlined in the lower half of the guest writer page. A brief cover letter is required, serving as a space to introduce yourself, your work, and why you’re interested in this fellowship. In accordance with tD’s mission statement, we welcome experimental or hybrid forms of writing. We welcome writing covering any dance genre, aesthetics, and styles.
Questions? Please contact editorial board member Megan Mizanty at meganm@thinkingdance.net.
Submissions will be accepted from October 15th to November 15th, with the selected writer(s) informed by December 1st.
