We are thrilled to announce that Qirui Lei, one of Prof. Hwa Yeong Wang’s students from the Class of 2029 at Duke Kunshan University, has been selected to join the prestigious Millennium Fellowship program! This highly competitive program, co-hosted by the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) and the Millennium Campus Network (MCN), is a semester-long leadership development initiative that empowers college students around the world to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and promote social impact in their communities.
Established in 2013, the Millennium Fellowship focuses on convening, challenging, and celebrating student leaders who are dedicated to making a difference in their local and global communities. Through this program, fellows participate in rigorous training, gain access to a global network of peers, and develop pioneering projects aligned with the SDGs. The ultimate goal is to equip the next generation of leaders with the tools they need to tackle issues like climate change, inequality, poverty, and educational access.
Duke Kunshan University is proud to be one of over 330+ campuses participating in the program, spanning 60 countries and territories around the world. This year, the program received a record-breaking pool of over 76,000 applicants representing 6,000+ campuses worldwide. Out of this extraordinary pool, 26 students from DKU were selected to join the Class of 2026 Millennium Fellows—a tremendous achievement that speaks to the strength of our student body at DKU.
As a Millennium Fellow, Qirui Lei will work alongside other young changemakers to lead a project aimed at advancing one or more of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The fellowship is not only an opportunity to drive positive change but also a chance for students to grow as leaders, collaborate with peers from around the world, and make a tangible impact on their communities.
The Millennium Fellowship’s vision has inspired over 8,000 alumni since its inception, encouraging young leaders to dream boldly and act with purpose.
