Music Program

The DKU Philharmonic Orchestra was founded in 2019. Students interested in joining the ensemble should contact the orchestra conductor Prof. Charles Niu <jiran.niu@dukekunshan.edu.cn>.

The DKU Chorale was initiated by students in 2018 has been under the direction of Prof. Mickey Zhang since 2020. Students interested in joining the ensemble should contact Prof. Yi (Mickey) Zhang <yz685@duke.edu>.

The DKU Chamber Music Series was initiated by Prof. Maximiliano Amici.  Students interested in joining the concert should contact Prof. Maximiliano Amici <maximiliano.amici@dukekunshan.edu.cn>.

Policies & Checkout Conditions

Failure to comply with any of the following will result in immediate revocation of musical instruments usage rights.
  • Musical instruments may be borrowed by all DKU students and faculty
  • Musical instruments may be used only for DKU activities
  • Musical instruments must be checked out and returned during regular opening hours.
  • Musical instruments can be checked out for one week.
  • Return musical instruments on time! Failure to do so will result in a strike. If two strikes are incurred, your checkout privileges will be revoked. No exceptions.
  • Normally, one person may only check out one type of musical instrument at one time (e.g., you cannot check out two violins at the same time), unless given special permission from the Division of Arts and Humanities.
  • Borrowers are responsible for the musical instruments while they are in their possession. Students are obligated to pay for lost and broken musical instruments.
  • Please immediately notify the AH staff if you notice any problems with musical instruments while they are in your care.
  • All musical instruments must be put into the musical instrument cases when not in use. All musical instrument cases must be returned together with the musical instruments upon check-in.
  • All musical instruments will be verified to be in good working order upon checkout. Musical instruments must be returned in the same condition it was when checked in. The students must be present when musical instruments are inspected before being released to them.
  • Do not let anyone else use the musical instruments other than you. You are responsible for any damage, regardless of who does it.
  • If your musical instrument gets damaged while you have checked it out, PLEASE notify the AH coordinator in writing so that it can be quickly fixed. Honesty and responsibility are greatly appreciated.
  • All musical instruments must be in your immediate possession at all times. Do not leave musical instruments in classrooms or any public place! If it gets lost or damaged, it is your problem.
  • Unauthorized use of musical instruments will be treated as theft and violators will be turned over to school authorities.
